![]() I can certainly appreciate his idea of a "white balance lock", but in the absence of something like that setting the white balance manually is about the best we can do. ![]() I've seen this happen in my clips, and so I've learned to set a manual white balance to avoid it in those types of lighting conditions. And more importantly, if you pan during the video the white balance can visibly change, which you don't really want to see in a video clip. Stemu is talking about shooting video, where you don't have those same tools to adjust the white balance after the fact. Usually the result looks little different at home than I have thought. It is quite difficult to adjust manual WB using camera screen because eyes tries to neutralize scene light and little camera screen looks different. It is also good thing some times that camera AWB is not trying to neutralize very colored light too much. In very yellow or blue lights the AWB range in not enough and I must use manual settings. It is way better than Adobe AWB and usually more accurate than choosing kelvin. If I shoot RAW photos I almost always use the camera white balance (AWB) in Adobe camera raw. My experience is that Panasonic auto white balance works very well. I have shooted years with GF1, GH2, GH3 and GH4. Those seem to me like features that the EM10 would have. I use that feature all the time when I'm shooting under my own lighting. The GH3 also lets you store up to four different custom white balance settings so you can easily go back to them. That way you get exactly what you want instead of hoping that you can find something to point at that gives a decent looking white balance. I wonder why no brand has figured it yet. Very handy would be a semi-auto mode which sets exposure, AF and AWB with half shutter and then stays unchanged during a clip. It is just always both or just one of them. My GH4 which is video oriented camera cant even have separate AE-lock and AF-lock. It would be easy to add with FW update using function buttons. ![]() In my opinion every camera should have separate AE-lock, AF-lock and WB-lock. I know that you can set the white balance with grey card or white lens cap, but additionally it would be easy to just lock whatever WB what looks good in EVF. Automatic is usually close enough but the problem is that if I pan the camera pointing to other side of the street having different colour lights or decorations, WB suddenly changes during the clip and very quickly which is disturbing. Most often any of the predefined WB setttings is not good for the scene. If Magic Trackpad is used on iPad, swipe up or down using two fingers. Swipe or flick up or down to use intertia to move in bigger strides.
